Ultimate Battle of the Bands - Round 1 Results

The Votes are cast, and the winners of Ultimate Battle of Bands Round 1 are tabulated below. In total, 19 music fans responded for a 66% participation rate.  This is excellent! Thanks to all for your selections and interesting comments!

In the end, some very tight races that saw Pixies, Depeche Mode, Smiths and Arcade Fire advance by a single vote!!!!

Generally, the higher seeds prevailed, winning 25 of the 32 contests.  So no big upsets yet!  And all four #1 seeds moved on, although Pink Floyd needed a ‘Wall’ to keep out a surging Aerosmith.  But only one band received all 19 vote – no, not the Beatles but rather the Stones!!

Finally, the 1960s bracket had clear favorites and big victories; whereas the 1980s was wide open with a number of very tight races.  Sure makes for a fascinating Round of 32!

  1. Although I knew it should happen it was sad to see Joy Division lose in the first round. Good old Joy Division brings back those memories of growing up in a small boring town in northwestern Minnesota and sitting around and wonder if we should stop at 22 or 23 beers…

Nirvana beating Green Day…yes I can see it but really? It’s just because Nirvana is the beginners kit for radio based punk rock and everybody just thinks…oh…what could have been…however I do get it. Seeing Green Day live and their epic album America Idiot makes me bias.

Clash losing to AC/DC…I get it and this one is difficult. I actually blame the committee for these two facing off in the first round. Just too many good memories around The Clash.

Coldplay over the White Stripes? Seriously!! Come on….Just because they played the Super Bowl I bet. Jack White is one of the greats. I’m beginning to question our participants!

OK, here is what almost made me take a shot off whiskey at 8 am today. Kayne West actually got votes! I just can’t write what I want to say. Speechless…probably to everyone’s delight…
